North Bay Labor Council grants strike sanction to United Professors of Marin!
At the monthly meeting Wednesday night of North Bay labor organizations—ranging from health care workers and teachers unions to carpenters and mechanics unions—the delegates voted unanimously to grant strike sanction should UPM members vote to authorize a strike.
This means that all members of a labor organization that does not have a contract clause prohibiting a work stoppage would be required to honor UPM picket lines.
Preliminary indications are that only CSEA members (classified staff) on campus have such a clause. In addition, only construction workers on the yet to be built Science/Math building and the now under construction main IVC building also have a work stoppage prohibition. All other workers on or coming onto the campus should honor the picket lines.
